From January to April 2026, Vietnam’s cumulative export value of timber and wood products totalled USD 5.4 billion, posting a mild year-on-year increase of 0.4%. Broken down by category, wood product exports reached USD 3.5 billion over the first four months, a 5% year-on-year decline, whereas total wooden furniture exports hit USD 3.1 billion, dropping 6% year-on-year.

In terms of export destinations, the United States remains Vietnam’s top export market, yet market dividends keep fading amid mounting trade risks. To hedge against potential US tariff hikes, Vietnam is expanding its footprint across roughly 45 emerging markets. As for Union Wood, our core export market is the US. All our cabinets, bathroom vanities and bedroom wardrobes comply with US standards and are supplied directly from our factory at wholesale pricing.

Japan has registered exceptionally robust growth to become Vietnam’s second-largest export destination, with shipments surging over 23% in the past twelve months. Exports to Spain jumped by 63% on the back of strong local market demand, and Canada has emerged as a key marketplace, particularly for bedroom furniture items.

Industry insiders in Vietnam commented that the domestic Wood & Wood Products (W&WP) sector is navigating a complex operating landscape, with key export markets imposing stricter legal compliance requirements and growing trade protectionism headwinds. Despite widespread pressures, the industry has proven resilient thanks to its strategic shift toward market diversification.

Timber industry earnings in Vietnam

Moving forward, the timber and wood products sector will further tap into emerging markets, refine product portfolios and boost added value of wood processing. It will also upgrade export compliance frameworks to reduce reliance on any single market, so as to secure steady and sustainable growth for the whole export industry.
